The Columbus Community School Board is asking other area school districts to share superintendent services for the next fiscal year. School districts across the area were sent letters about potentially sharing superintendent services, and had to let the Columbus Community School Board know by February 20th. The Columbus School District saw an increase of 9.8 students this school year, but has seen an overall decrease in enrollment of around 50 students over the past three years, according to Superintendent Gary Benda. According to Benda, the reason behind sharing a superintendent is for financial reasons and the position will be shared, but specifics have not been announced.
The number of districts that received letters was not announced. However, the Winfield-Mount Union School District is one of the school boards that is discussing the potential of sharing the superintendent services. W-MU has also recently seen a decline in enrollment, over the last five years it has dropped by 59 students. Both boards will continue discussions in the coming weeks before a decision is made publicly.
