The Keota boys basketball team is set to take on BGM in the semi final round of class 1A district play tonight in Montezuma. The Eagles come into the game receiving votes in the latest poll from the Associated Press with a 19-3 overall record. They were a big winner over English Valleys at home in the first round Thursday 85-44 behind four players in double figures led by JD Stout with 28 points, Carson Sprouse with 18 points, Luke Hammen with 15 and Bryce Greiner with 10. On the season the Eagles are led by Stout at 28.8 points per game, tops in class 1A. Carson Sprouse leads the team with 77 assists and 52 steals. On the glass it’s Brady Duwa with 127 rebounds.

BGM comes into the game with an overall record of 17-5. The Bears got by Lynnville-Sully in the first round 58-52. Noah Beck had 16 points, Mitchell White 15 and Jordan Kriegel 12. On the year the Bears are led by Beck at 24 points per game. He’s also the team leader with 132 steals, 129 assists and 128 rebounds. The Eagles and Bears met once during the regular season with Keota squeaking out a 60-57 win at home. Stout led the Eagles in that game with 23 points, Carson Sprouse had 17 and Luke Hammen 13. Beck led the Bears with 26. This week, Keota head coach Dan Stout talked about seeing the Bears again. “They have a super guard in Noah Beck that really makes them go. One of our keys will be to stay with him. He kept them in the game. They also hurt us inside with some big bodies. They make it difficult for us to rebound. We aren’t going to change what we do.”

Action begins tonight at 6:30 at Montezuma High School.
