Members of the Mid-Prairie speech team found success Monday at the River Valley Conference Solo Speech Competition. Two Mid-Prairie students won best of center at Monday’s event, including Kira (kee-ra) Helmus in solo musical theatre acting, and Elizabeth Meader in storytelling. Mid Prairie Speech Coach Christine Meader was in charge of the contest. Meader gave praise to everyone who assisted, “I had lots of great help from within parents and alumni, and parents of alumni from Mid-Prairie volunteering in the concession stand, at the centers as time keepers, and room chairs. And also, I had help from within the student body from students interested and earning volunteer hours. So, a small army of volunteers and it never would have happened without them.” The schedule for the Mid-Prairie speech team doesn’t slow down from here. At the solo speech district contest on Saturday, 13 Golden Hawks will compete in 22 different events. The Mid-Prairie team will travel to Pekin High School this Saturday for the competition.
