Multiple cars were vandalized at seven homes in Washington’s northern neighborhoods early Thursday. The Washington Police Department is investigating, and Police Chief Jim Lester tells KCII News that as of Friday no arrests had been made. According to the Washington County Communications Office, at 5:35 a.m. a resident reported the back window of his car was broken out in the 200 block of East 5th Street. Additional vandalism and burglaries were reported throughout the morning with multiple vehicles having a powder foam substance covering their interiors, in one instance it was put in the gas tank. Thieves stole credit cards, cash, electronics, and a shotgun. At least one of these vehicles was in a garage when it was vandalized. The instances happened in the 100 and 1400 blocks of North 4th Avenue, the 300 block of East 6th Street, the 1600 block of North Marion Avenue, the 200 block of North 2nd Avenue, and the 1000 block of North 6th Avenue.

Chief Lester reminds people to keep their vehicles locked. Also, the city has a program where private security cameras can be registered with the police station. The program allows authorities to have a map of cameras in town and then ask the camera owners for footage that may assist in investigations such as this.
