The Kalona City Council will move forward with their pocket park plans. A pocket park is a smaller park that is built to make better use of a vacant building lot or smaller lots of land in a city. The council is working with the park and recreation committee to create a pocket park on the corner of B Avenue and Third Street. The council will pull money from their Washington County Riverboat Foundation yearly municipal grant to fund this project. The city received approximately $140,000 this year to fund various projects. City Administrator Ryan Schlabaugh says some trees have already been cleared for the park and playground equipment will be discussed at a later meeting. Schlabaugh is looking to have a meeting on March 12th to discuss further plans.
