March has a special role in Washington following a proclamation made by Mayor Jaron Rosien. At the recent Washington City Council meeting, Rosien proclaimed March as Bettering Washington month, “Whereas Bill Sitler in our history was active in supporting projects to better Washington. And Whereas the Washington Iowa Betterment Foundation was established to use funds left by Bill Sitler to continue supporting projects to better Washington. And whereas the Washington Iowa Betterment Foundation has helped to better Washington by supporting large projects like the new auditorium, the YMCA, and many smaller projects like the flower baskets downtown and flowers in the park, and other physical improvements. I have the privilege of proclaiming March 2020 as Bettering Washington Month in Washington and call upon the citizens to recognized and support activities that better Washington.” The fourth annual Washington Iowa Betterment Foundation pub crawl fundraiser is coming up. Tickets are $30 each and include five drink tickets, a shirt, and transportation for the evening. The annual pub crawl to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day will be held 5-10 p.m. on March 14th.
