The FIRST Tech Challenge World Championship in Detroit, slated to happen in April, has been cancelled. The Highland Robotics team, the Finger Tightans, recently qualified for their fourth appearance at the world championship after a successful showing at the state championship. This will bring a successful end to the seniors’ careers with the robotics team. Senior Matt Black tells KCII about the leadership he has seen from the underclassmen, “There’s me and two other seniors. One of those seniors is our driver. Our other driver is a sophomore, this is his first year on the team, but he’s been in just as much as that senior has, putting in time after school to get that driver practice, to work on various parts of the robot. We’ve all had various contributions to anything on the robot. I could point to anyone beyond that group of seniors that has had a substantial contribution to it.” Community members can still support the team by buying a t-shirt to fund future trips to competitions. The deadline to order a shirt is April 2nd.
