The tax rate will remain the same in the City of Washington in the next fiscal year. The city council approved the budget at their regular session meeting Tuesday. The tax rate is currently $15.22393 per $1,000 assessed value and will remain at that same level. City Administrator Brent Hinson said the new budget includes some equipment purchases and a couple of big capital projects to improve the city, “Really as far as capital projects, the biggest kind of new stuff would be the West Buchanan paving, so that’s from the Business Park to Avenue E. So that’s a project that’s in this budget that was just approved. We’ve also got a big water main project on West Washington.” He says both of those projects will likely begin in the spring of 2021. The paving of West Buchanan would provide a direct route from Highway 1 to just south of the high school.
