The Washington County branch of Hawkeye Area Community Action Program (HACAP) is seeing increased usage of their food pantry and a new program called Groceries for Good has been launched to help. With a growing number of COVID-19 cases in Iowa people are encouraged to social distance and some people are experiencing less work and shutdowns, so the Washington Chamber of Commerce and Main Street Washington started the program. The goal is to help those in our community who are experiencing food insecurity.
People and businesses can donate to HACAP through the Groceries for Good campaign. For each dollar donated, HACAP can purchase up to six pounds of food. Those products come through the Food Reservoir in Hiawatha and will not deplete local grocery shelves of stock. To donate online click here. All funds raised will be directed to HACAP Director RenElla Crawford to fill the local food pantry.
