A major disaster declaration for the state of Iowa has been approved by the president amid the novel coronavirus pandemic. FEMA announced that federal emergency aid has been made available to supplement state, tribal, and local recovery efforts in areas affected by COVID-19. The funding can be used for emergency protective measures, including direct federal assistance under public assistance.
As of Wednesday, Iowa has 145 confirmed cases of COVID-19. Johnson County has 43 positive cases of the novel coronavirus, Washington County has six, and Henry County has one. The Iowa Department of Public Health stated that one person has died from the virus in Dubuque County. Of the positive cases, four have been people over 81 years old, 52 have been 61-80 years old, 50 cases have been 41-60 years old, 38 have been 18-40 years old, and one child has tested positive for COVID-19 in Iowa. There have been 2,578 negative COVID-19 tests in Iowa.
