The Mid-Prairie School Board met online for their regular meeting Monday and gave an update on their COVID-19 plan for the foreseeable future. While school is out of session, the school grounds remain closed and ways to bring classroom teachings home are continuing to be discussed. Superintendent Mark Schneider tells KCII News the next steps the school district will take to continue educating students, “Obviously this is something that has never happened before so we really are building the plane as we fly it. It’s starting a little bit on the slow end and it’ll pick up speed. The more we go, the more we learn. Our initial plan right now is to put some optional learning activities on a website, or email parents and give them some resources they can start with their students right away. We kind of set a deadline of Wednesday, early Thursday morning to get that information to parents so they can start doing some things with their children at home. I’m assuming some children are getting bored and will want to do some things.” Schneider and his staff also discussed ways to help students with social and emotional needs. This could include sending postcards, videos, and more to students who need that kind of support. Schneider also announced their waiver to serve breakfast and lunch to students was approved and now they are serving pre-packaged meals to over 300 students from 120 families.
