While sports are currently on pause, the Iowa High School Athletic Association gave fans something to get excited for on Thursday by releasing the 2020 football schedule.
A gauntlet non-district slate awaits Washington, as they face off with three perennial powers including last fall’s class 3A state champ in Western Dubuque and the runner up in Solon. The Demon season that includes five home games gets started on August 28th when they host Marion. They then hit the road to seek revenge against the Bobcats and then travel to face the Spartans in week three. The four-game non-district schedule concludes on September 18th when the Demons host Davenport Assumption. The district schedule starts with a home bout against Fort Madison on September 25th, a trip to Mount Pleasant, home against Fairfield, home against Burlington for senior night, and they wrap up the regular season on October 23rd at Keokuk.
Washington went 7-3 in 2019 and was ousted by Western Dubuque in the first round of the playoffs. In the current format, district champs automatically receive a postseason bid, while a RPI system determines at-large bids where non-district games matter.
