A free program is available to help Iowans navigate Medicare plans. The Senior Health Insurance Information Program (SHIIP) is part of the State of Iowa Insurance Division. Local SHIIP volunteers helped 285 Washington County residents save $108,840 in 2019 by finding the right Medicare plans. Washington County Hospital and Clinics hosts the site for local SHIIP counseling. Volunteers provide free, confidential assistance. Due to the novel coronavirus situation, SHIIP is experiencing higher than usual demand for services and you can seek assistance by phone or on their website.
