Iowans should be aware as an anticipated surge of fraudulent investment schemes is anticipated during the COVID-19 pandemic. The Iowa Insurance Division (IID) is telling investors to be on guard. The Iowa Insurance Division warns investors to watch for investments tied to the threat of COVID-19, like falsely saying they’ll raise funds for companies manufacturing personal protective equipment or miracle cures. Some scammers will have “get rich quick” schemes, and people are reminded that if it sounds too good to be true then it probably is. To protect yourself, the IID recommends investors ask if the salesperson and the investment are properly registered or licensed. That information can be confirmed by the IID. Also, before donating to charities, independently verify if any charity is raising money for the ill or relief efforts. Be careful and don’t give out personal information.
