A semi-truck rollover led to 2,400 gallons of fertilizer being spilled into a ditch in Henry County. The spill occurred on the east side of Mt. Pleasant near the interchange of U.S. Highways 34 and 218 on Monday. The Iowa Department of Natural Resources say Liqui-Grow staff were able to recover around 400 gallons of the fertilizer, with around 2,000 gallons reaching an unnamed tributary of Heather Branch. Company staff were also able to dam the creek with sandbags and are continuing to pump up the fertilizer to prevent downstream contamination. DNR officials will continue to monitor the site and test the water for any changes. The latest update stated there was a high level of ammonia at the spill site with no signs of fish killed. The name of the driver and the cause of the wreck were not released.
