Free lunches are being provided to over 700 students in the Washington School District as school closures continue due to COVID-19. Superintendent Willie Stone says the district is up to 727 students receiving the meals each Monday and Wednesday. He says it’s important for students to offer these meals, “We know that times are going to get tough for people, or are tough already for people, and we want to make sure that our students are getting fed. We want to make sure that we can do as best we can for our community to be able to help out, and this is a way for us to do that. We’re happy and obliged to do it.”
Families can take a survey online each Monday and Wednesday so staff know how many meals to prepare. Click here to take the survey. The meals are available to any children who live in the district. They can be picked up in both Washington and Brighton, with drop off points at Brighton Municipal Gas and Water, Bruty’s Corner, Case Field, HACAP, Lantern Grove Apartments, Lincoln Elementary School, Linn Hollow, Parkside Estates, St. James Catholic Church, Stewart Elementary School and Washington High School.
The governor has ordered schools to remain closed until April 30th.
