Confirmed cases of COVID-19 increased by nearly 100 from Tuesday to Wednesday in Iowa. According to the Iowa Department of Public Health as of Wednesday, Iowa has 1,145 confirmed cases with most never requiring hospitalization. Of those, 104 are currently hospitalized, 89 have been discharged and are recovering at home, and 646 were never hospitalized. There have been 11,670 negative COVID-19 test results.

Washington County has had 62 cases and three deaths, Johnson County has had 147 cases and one death, Louisa County has had 30 cases, Henry County has had 15 cases and one death, Iowa County has had six cases, Jefferson County has had three cases, and Keokuk County has had two positive cases. In her daily press conference Wednesday, Governor Kim Reynolds said they expect Iowa’s case numbers to peak later this month.

People are urged to practice social distancing by staying home as much as possible and preventing contact with people outside of their household. The IDPH encourages people to wash their hands frequently with soap and water for at least 20 seconds, cover coughs and sneezes, and disinfect high traffic touched surfaces like doorknobs, phones, and countertops.
