A $2.98 million contract has been awarded for the next step of the Washington Wellness Park project. The council received only one bid and awarded the contract to DeLong Construction, Inc. The next phase includes the construction of a roadway, four baseball/softball fields, a concession stand with restrooms, two full size soccer fields, a sand volleyball court, and a full parking lot.

City Administrator Brent Hinson said the work approved includes all but two alternates for lighting, “And then accept all of the alternates except for lighting of baseball field two and lighting of the soccer fields. So that is work that we hope to be able to add in later if we are able to be successful on some of the grants we’ve applied for. But we just can’t make the project budget work right now, so we’re asking you to hold back on alternates six and seven, which is the lighting. You’ll have one lit ball field out of this.” Mayor Jaron Rosien said that it would take $350,000 to do all the lighting, and the city is seeking grants from Major League Baseball and USA Soccer for up to $325,000.
