A simple request on social media last week turned into a statewide movement that lid up stadiums across Iowa.
The Iowa High School Athletic Directors Association took to Twitter asking schools to turn on their stadium lights at 8 p.m. on Friday as a sign of solidarity for the students during the COVID-19 pandemic. Lights were on for 15 minutes across the state to represent the number of school days missed up to that point. Schools like Washington lit up the football, baseball, and softball stadiums and people were invited to enjoy the scenery from inside their vehicles. To find pictures of Southeast Iowa schools that participated in the Twitter campaign check out the hashtag #LightUpIA.
Schools are encouraged to continue to light up their fields at 8 p.m. every Friday until class is back in session.
