Through the darkness of Friday night in these uncertain times, lights shown brightly in Wellman and Kalona in support of Mid-Prairie student athletes who will miss their opportunity to compete this spring. In a press conference last week, Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds suspended school operations around the state through the end of the academic year, and along with it, spring sports. Administration at Mid-Prairie joined other school districts around the state in responding to a call from the Iowa High School Athletic Directors Association to light up athletic venues from 8-8:20p.m., one minute for each day of school missed by students during the COVID-19 pandemic. In a show of support, lights were turned on at Dr. Dwight G. Sattler Field and Paul N. Bailey Field in Wellman and Carr, Vincent, Gould Field in Kalona.
