The Highland High School Agriculture Department will be hosting a new STEM program next school year. Each year, the STEM Scale-up Program, overseen by the Iowa Governor’s STEM Advisory Council, helps teachers, administrators, and informal educators run and maintain after school STEM programs. The Highland School District was awarded their application for the 2020-2021 school year to host a STEM program. The school will receive help from the Iowa FFA Foundation to start up and maintain the program. The theme for their program is called “CASE – Agricultural Power and Technology,” a program that prepares students for career opportunity in agricultural engineering. The Highland robotics team was also a product of this program, which has qualified for the First Tech Challenge robotics world competition for the past four years.
