Iowans are encouraged to vote by mail for the June 2nd primary as social distancing continues due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The Secretary of State’s office is sending absentee ballot request forms to each active registered vote in the state in the mail.
Washington County Auditor Dan Widmer encourages people to fill out those forms and drop them in the mail, “An absentee ballot request is necessary before we can send a voter the actual absentee ballot itself. So we need to have the request made, and that will tell us whether the individual wants a Republican ballot or a Democrat ballot, so it’s very important.” Once the request forms are received in the auditor’s office then they will mail the appropriate ballot to you. Widmer said he doesn’t anticipate any delays in voting results on June 2nd.
There will be four polls open on June 2nd for the entire county. Ainsworth, Brighton, and Washington Wards 2 and 3 will vote at the Washington High School. Kalona and Riverside will vote at Riverside City Hall. Washington Wards 1 and 4 will vote at the county courthouse. And Wellman and West Chester residents can vote at the West Chester Heritage Building.
