Iowa COVID-19 testing added over 1,000 positive cases in the state over the weekend. According to the Iowa Department of Public Health, as of Sunday Iowa has tallied 5,475 positive cases and 118 deaths. Of those who have tested positive 1,900 people have recovered. And 36,090 Iowans have been tested, or one in 87 people.

State Senator Kevin Kinney tells KCII News how he feels the pandemic has been handled in Iowa, “The Governor has shut down systematically businesses within Iowa all along and she’s taken that approach, and did not want to do a stay in place [order]. And for the most part, I think it’s kind of mirrored other stay in place orders from other states. So, I feel that it may not send the message that you want and need people to stay at home as forcefully, but overall, it’s been fine.”

He encourages people to stay home to prevent the spread of the virus, “Be safe out there. We’ll get through this, it’s just going to take a while. And hopefully we’ll be getting back to normal soon.”

The IDPH urges people to practice social distancing, continue to wash hands frequently with soap and water for 20 seconds, and disinfect surfaces. Iowans are encouraged to take the COVID-19 self-assessment online at TestIowa.com and from that tests will be assigned to residents.
