Graduating seniors are waiting in anticipation to walk across the stage to receive their diplomas, but the COVID-19 outbreak has postponed many graduation celebrations. Many schools are beginning to make plans to celebrate their seniors in the summer, and the Winfield-Mount Union School District has a date in mind. June 28th is the new graduation date set by the school district and their group of 30 seniors will be celebrated that day. Superintendent Jeff Maeder tells KCII News how the school district decided on the new graduation date, “The general feeling was that we would wait long enough that hopefully we can do the traditional ceremony, and yet not have to wait until it was well into almost next school year to have the ceremony. That was the thinking, to have a happy medium between those two things. We knew once August hits, everybody is kind of already thinking about next year and it’s just harder to schedule.” The school district has a few options on ways to hold the celebration, including holding a ceremony with an empty gymnasium and a parade around the town with the seniors.
