A semi pulling a trailer full of hogs wrecked near Swedesburg. According to the Henry County Sheriff’s Office at 3:14 a.m. Friday a semi rollover was reported to officials on Highway 218 near 140th Street. It was found that Jeffrey Thom Walker of Oelwein fell asleep while traveling southbound on Highway 218. At the time he was driving a semi pulling a livestock trailer with a full load of pigs.
When Walker awoke he realized the semi was driving in the median of the highway. He tried to re-enter the highway, but the semi caught the lip of the pavement and the semi and trailer rolled. The two detached with the semi-tractor sliding across both lanes of southbound traffic and the trailer came to rest in the median.
Walker was cited for failure to maintain control of a motor vehicle. He was taken to the Henry County Health Center for minor injuries.
The Henry County Sheriff’s Office was assisted at the scene by first responders from Wayland, Olds, and Winfield, as well as the Henry County Ambulance. Area farmers assisted with containment and removal of the pigs from the roadway and trailer.
