Several airports in southeast Iowa have received grants as part of the CARES Act in response to COVID-19. Congressman Dave Loebsack explains the grants are to provide economic relief during the COVID-19 pandemic and are in addition to the funding they already receive from the federal government. The funds were announced by the U.S. Department of Transportation for municipal and regional airports. Washington Municipal Airport received $30,000, Fairfield Municipal Airport received $30,000, and the Iowa City Municipal Airport received $69,000.
Loebsack said these airports “play a critical role in fueling economic development in their communities and throughout the region, allowing them to grow.” As people have been traveling less during the COVID-19 pandemic municipal and regional airports are seeing less traffic and fewer fuel sales.
