Lone Tree native and longtime college basketball coach Steve Forbes will have a new home this winter. On Thursday he was named the Head Men’s Basketball Coach at Wake Forest University in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.
This marks the first head coach position in a Power 5 Conference for Forbes. In his over 30-year coaching career, Forbes has been a part of numerous big name Division I schools including being an assistant at Texas A&M, Tennessee, and Wichita State. He most recently was the head coach at East Tennessee State where he compiled a 130-43 record in five seasons and two NCAA Tournament berths. The 55-year-old will look to turn the Demon Deacons around, as they are coming off of a 13-18 season a part of the Atlantic Coast Conference.
Forbes was a 1983 graduate of Lone Tree High School and pursued a college degree from Southern Arkansas where he graduated from in 1988.
