The Department of Natural Resources is investigating a manure spill that happened near Sigourney. According to the DNR, Brandon Buch of Buch Farms reported the spill at about 3:30 p.m. Wednesday after a tanker rolled into a tributary of Bridge Creek, northeast of Sigourney.
By 4:30 p.m. the tanker had been righted, the stream was dammed, and about 6,000 gallons of manure remained in or had been recovered from the tanker. An estimated 500 to 1,000 gallons of manure reached the creek where it was pumped for land application. The Sigourney Fire Department assisted by flushing the stream above the dam.
DNR staff concluded that most of the manure was contained behind the dam and little had traveled downstream to the creek. DNR staff took water samples for analysis and they found no dead fish.
