The Top 10 Best Sports Stories Countdown from each area school returns to KCII this week and Washington had plenty of shining moments throughout the fall and winter sports season. Number 10 on our Demon countdown takes us to a beat down on the gridiron at Case Field.
On September 2nd the Demons were set to face off with Oskaloosa for week two action. The Indians were coming off of a playoff appearance from 2018 and were looking to make it two in a row against the Demons. Washington had other plans. The anticipated matchup was never in doubt, as anything and everything went Washington’s way en route to a 62-12 drubbing. The Demons compiled 484 yards of total offense and put the game away early holding a 42-12 halftime advantage. Luke Turner was nine of 12 through the air with four touchdowns and added two more on the ground with nine carries for 144. Ethan Hunt was his main target with three receptions for 103 yards including an 88-yard prayer right before half. The Demon defense brought their lunch pail as well, holding a potent Indian attack to just 268 yards on the evening including a scoop and score fumble recovery from Bryan Martin.
The win moved the Demons to 2-0 and helped the team to a class 3A playoff bid.
