The Washington City Council is looking to create a four-way stop near the new Washington YMCA facility. The facility is at the intersection of West 5th Street and North Avenue D. Currently there are only stop signs on the north and south corners. The council discussed creating a four-way stop there as well as lowering the speed zones. Police Chief Jim Lester recommended collecting more data before making official changes to the speed zones on West 5th Street. The council was in consensus of creating a four-way stop at this time and will look at options that include LED lights on the signs. Additional readings of the ordinance will need to be held before the signs can be implemented. The new YMCA is slated to open June 1st.
