Last year, 43 people in motorcycle wrecks in Iowa died. According to the Iowa Department of Transportation, 34 of those people were not wearing helmets. May is National Motorcycle Safety Awareness Month. Those operating or riding on motorcycles are encouraged to wear full gear including helmets by the National Safety Council. All motorists are reminded to watch for motorcycles on roadways, and to look twice before changing lanes and at intersections. Also, when mowing your lawns do not put grass in the streets as it can cause a slick surface for motorcycles.
