Washington’s annual tree giveaway will be held this Saturday with a little different format. The event has been moved out to the Washington County Fairgrounds at 8 a.m. Saturday. The Washington Tree Committee will be giving away 150 trees. Grant assistance was provided by the Washington Iowa Betterment Foundation.

The public is asked to use the south entrance from Highway 1, wear a mask, and keep your car windows up. People should stay in line and follow the vehicle ahead of them, have a list of your top three tree types, then drive to the site of your tree. The tree will be taken to your vehicle and you should exit onto Old Highway 92. If people would like a second tree they can then re-enter from Highway 1.

Trees available include Paw Paw Pennsylvania Gold, American Smoketree, Sweetbay Magnolia, Canaan Fir, Serbian Spruce, American Hornbeam, Chinese Chestnut, Schuette Oak, American Beech, Dawn Redwood, and Swamp Chestnut Oak. People are also reminded to call 811 before digging any holes so that underground utilities can be located.
