A Washington County woman was behind the wheel of a car that led officers on a pursuit and then wrecked in rural Riverside Wednesday night. According to the Washington County Sheriff’s Office, the driver was Candy Wildflower Morningstar. At 9:30 p.m. a deputy was out with a vehicle that was initially reported as traveling in the wrong direction on Highway 218. The vehicle led officers on rural Riverside gravel roads before crashing on 170th Street near Highway 218, near Highland High School.
Officers from the Washington County Sheriff’s Office were assisted by the Iowa State Patrol, Riverside Fire Department, Riverside QRS, and Washington County Ambulance. One person was taken by ambulance to the University of Iowa Hospital.
Charges are pending on Morningstar for eluding, interference with official acts, and traffic violations. PAWS and More also assisted by removing a dog from the vehicle. The vehicle was towed from the scene.
