The saying goes not all heroes wear capes, and one woman in Columbus Junction is a  superhero in disguise. Chris Hedrick is a site manager for Milestone, a non-profit organization that helps older Iowans with meals and other services such as abuse reporting and exercise, and she wanted to go the extra mile and help those older adults around her community. Hedrick started making face masks, baking cookies, and even shopping for older adults because according to her, helping people is something her family does best. She tells KCII News how she feels when she helps, “I feel very honored to be able to do it. I feel like I do owe the community something. Whatever we can help do is what we’re supposed to do. I enjoy doing it. I’m only able to work two days a week right now with Milestone only doing frozen meals, so I spend my time doing volunteer work the rest of the time. If it’s taking someone to get groceries or picking up groceries for someone, so be it. If I’m able to do it I will do it.” Hedrick wants to continue to help those around her and says if anyone needs facemasks made they can contact her via her phone number at 319-728-8279. She tells those who might be struggling from the COVID-19 outbreak to stay strong and reach out for help if they need it.
