The Washington County Conservation Board will look to find other funding resources after not receiving a grant for the Kewash Nature Trail project. The $100,000 Wellmark Large Match Grant would have helped with a large portion of the cost for phase two of the Kewash Nature Trail. Executive Director Zach Rozmus delivered the bad news to the conservation board, but says other funding sources will be sought and the project will not be in danger, “I think that they had 100 applications and they only selected, I believe it was 10 or 12 and that’s throughout the entire country. That grant happened rather quickly. I was pretty happy with the grant application that we put in. We partnered with public health on that one as well. That’s how it’s going to be with grants. There’s opportunities out there for funding, you’re going to get some, you’re not going to get some, too. More than anything, I don’t want to by any means paint a picture that this is detrimental to the Kewash project phase two or anything like that. But it’s my obligation for the budget that if there’s funding sources out there I should be trying to find them.” Rozmus says their $300,000 Transportation Alternative Program grant is available to apply for reimbursement, but more funding is needed. Phase two of the Kewash Nature trail will cost an estimated $550,000 to complete.
