It was an up and down season during 2019-20 for the Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk girls basketball team. Under first year head coach Danny Hershberger, the Hawks compiled a 7-15 overall record. The Hawks started the year 1-3 with all three losses coming by a combined eight points. They would rebound to score key victories during the season over North Cedar, Wilton, Durant, Camanche, Bellevue and Anamosa.
While the overall record may not have been where they wanted it to be, the Golden Hawks posted some impressive stats during the season. Two Hawks were named all-conference with sophomore Maddie Nonnenmann bringing in All-South Division honors in the RVC and junior Myah Lugar named honorable mention. Nonnenmann was best for Mid-Prairie and sixth in the River Valley Conference scoring 11.6 points per game, despite missing two weeks due to a wrist injury. Lugar led the Hawks with 101 rebounds, and scored 9.5 points per game.
Other standout performances included Golden Hawk freshman Amara Jones leading all of class 3A freshman in Iowa with 77 steals. As a team, Mid-Prairie led the River Valley Conference and was 11th in class 3A with 79 blocked shots. Phelan Hostetler led Mid-Prairie with a conference best 38 blocks, 10th most in 3A. The Golden Hawks ended their season in the first round of the playoffs, falling at top ten ranked West Liberty.
