Corn and soybeans in southeast Iowa are ahead of the five-year average. According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture, in southeast Iowa 93% of corn is planted and 48% of corn has emerged. The five-year average for corn emerging is 44%. Soybeans are also ahead of the five-year average of 8% emerged with 15% emerged locally.
Statewide topsoil moisture is rated at 13% surplus, 78% adequate, and 9% short to very short. Subsoil moisture is rated at 10% surplus, 83% adequate, and 7% short to very short.
