A grant that equals 450,000 meals in eastern Iowa was presented to Hawkeye Area Community Action Program’s food reservoir. The Wellmark Foundation provided $75,000 for HACAP to support the growing number of requests for food assistance as a result of COVID-19. As people deal with furloughs, layoffs, and children out of school food requests have risen. The Wellmark Foundation executive director Becky Wampler Bland said, “Having access to healthy and nutritious food is a basic need. This grant from the Wellmark Foundation will help fill a critical gap for Iowans – at a time when it is needed most.”
