Forty more Iowans died due to COVID-19 over the three-day Memorial Day weekend. According to the Iowa Department of Public Health, as of 5 p.m. Monday 459 Iowans had died from the novel coronavirus. The state has had 17,578 positive COVID-19 cases and 9,387 people have recovered, which equates to a recovery rate of 53%. One in 24 Iowans have been tested for COVID-19.
As of Monday, Washington County has 184 confirmed cases with eight deaths, and 136 have recovered. Johnson County has had 602 confirmed cases and seven deaths, Louisa County has had 335 cases and seven deaths, Henry County’s case total is 63 with one death, Iowa County has had 33 cases, Jefferson County’s case count is 18, and Keokuk County has had 14 confirmed cases.
People are encouraged by public health officials to continue washing hands frequently with soap and water for at least 20 seconds, wear masks in public, and practice social distancing.
