tri-city-food-pantry

The final joint food pantry event with the cities of Riverside, Wellman, and Kalona will take place Saturday. Since starting the pop-up food pantries in April, over 15,000 pounds of food have been distributed. The three communities also helped out those families with infant care items, and gave out 11 cans of infant formula and 14 packages of diapers at their latest food pantry event. Kalona City Administrator Ryan Schlabaugh says this event will be the final joint food pantry event as they look to distribute the remaining inventory and monetary donations to local food pantries or the area schools’ free lunch programs. Schlabaugh says he is proud of how the communities came together for their citizens, “I’m most proud of the cities that we’ve worked together to do this. It doesn’t always work as well as it has this time. I think the administrators have done a good job. We’ve had good help that has allowed us to do it in a socially responsible way.” The final tri-city food pantry event will take place this Saturday from 9-11 a.m. at the Kalona Public Works Building at 711 A Avenue. Those with food emergencies that need to be fulfilled before Saturday can call their respective city halls or Schlabaugh to receive assistance.
