It’s officially one week until the Keota baseball team hits the diamond for the first time and they look to pick up right where they left off from last summer.
The Eagles finished third in the South Iowa Cedar League in 2019 with a 15-6 record before falling to Pekin in the first round of the class 1A playoffs. Four of their top five bats return including sophomore Colten Clarahan. As a freshman he compiled an impressive .424 batting average with 18 RBI and 10 runs scored. He also led the way on the mound with a 1.31 ERA in 42 innings of work and struck out 56. Bryce Greiner is back after a .355 batting average last year and Carson Sprouse looks to improve on a 1.95 ERA. Keota graduated two players from last season and possess two seniors this year in Nolan Verstraete and Tyler Waterhouse.
The Eagles get ready for the season opener next Monday against North Mahaska.
