Iowa’s initial unemployment claims have seen a drop in the last week and unemployment insurance benefit payments totaled just over $51,000,000. According to the Iowa Workforce Development, last week there were 6,920 unemployment claims. That’s about 50% from the previous week’s initial claims. The continuing weekly unemployment claims for the week ending May 30th was 165,195 people; that’s 13,000 fewer than the previous week. Industries with the highest claims last week were manufacturing at nearly 2,000, followed by health care and social assistance at 784 people.

A total of $105,700,800 was paid in Federal Pandemic Unemployment Compensation during that week. And since April 4th, a total of $766,791,000 has been paid in Federal Pandemic Unemployment Compensation.
