A Grand March and graduation will be held for Washington High School students during Father’s Day Weekend. High School Principal Erik Buchholz says measures will be taken to limit contact and practice social distancing with limited audience and people spread out. All of the festivities will be held at Case Field. There will not be a traditional prom with a dance, but juniors and seniors, along with their dates, will be invited to dress up in their prom best and take part in the Grand March at 8 p.m. June 19.
Buchholz says, “Obviously they will be in couples, but they will still be six feet apart from couples. We will introduce who they are as they’re walking on the southeast side of the track. They’ll get a chance to stop at the 50-yard line and turn to the crowd for picture purposes. They’ll continue on around the track on the west side below the score board, and on the 50-yard line on the home side they will stop again to be able to pose for a picture over there. And then when they finish, they’ll finish at about the 100-meter start, and then we’re going to set up a professional picture over there.”
The football field will become a stage for graduation on June 21 at 7 p.m. Seniors and two family members will sit on the field in designated spots for the ceremony. Buchholz says what the ceremony will look like, “The superintendent will still give his opening remarks. And the students will give their speeches as well, we’ll have three students giving their speeches as well.” Valedictorian will be announced at the ceremony. Seniors will be mailed five tickets to allow family and friends to view the ceremony from the stands.
The rain dates for the events would be moving Grand March to Saturday, June 20th, and for Graduation it is Tuesday, June 23rd.
