Last summer the Winfield-Mt. Union softball program made a big leap compiling an 18-9 record and finishing third in the Southeast Iowa Super Conference North Division. An even bigger leap could be in store for 2020 with a lot of the roster back including a first-team all conference pitcher.
Junior Madie Anderson returns for her fourth year leading the Wolves in the circle and last season recorded a minuscule 1.84 ERA in 163 innings of work. Her 290 strikeouts led the league and she held a 17-8 record as a pitcher. The Wolves hope to improve on a .253 team batting average and freshman Keetyn Townsley should help that after registering a .349 BA in 2019. Anna Anderson tallied a .293 batting average and led the team with 22 RBI. WMU returns seven of nine starters and could be a thorn in the side of opponents for the foreseeable future with just one senior on this year’s team.
The Wolves get the season started Monday against Louisa-Muscatine.
