The cities of Riverside, Wellman, and Kalona will cap off a free food distribution effort with a final tri-city drive-thru food pantry this week. After four pop-up food pantry events, the three cities have been able to deliver over 20,000 pounds of donated food and hygienic supplies, and delivered an estimated 3,500 pounds of food to those needing emergency food delivery. Kalona City Administrator Ryan Schlabaugh says with $1,200 remaining in the food pantry fund, it will be enough to use for a final event and redistribute the remaining funds and food supplies to local food pantries. This event will take place Saturday at the Kalona public works building at 711 A Avenue from 9-11 a.m. Those who have food emergencies that need to be fulfilled before Saturday can contact their local city halls to receive aid.
