highland-huskies51-9

Reloading is something that the Highland softball program has had a knack for over the years. With a big chunk of their lineup from last season gone, the Huskies will have to reload once again in order to compete atop of the Southeast Iowa Super Conference.

Highland finished the 2019 campaign second in the North division with a 17-9 overall mark, but they lost five of nine starters including slugger Abbie Miller with her 47 RBI and pitcher Megan Hoenig with a 1.87 ERA. They do return a consistent bat with Dani Laughlin, as her .468 batting average in her eighth grade season led the team. Fellow freshman Abbi Stransky looks to improve off of a .333 batting average and seven runs knocked in. Sophomore Grace Batcheller is poised to take over the reigns in the circle after throwing 18 innings last year and compiling a 7.88 ERA. Alli Brand is the lone senior and is one of four upperclassmen.

The Huskies open the season Monday against Hillcrest Academy in a game that can be heard on KCII.
