A Davenport man was convicted Monday on multiple felony charges after fleeing from officials and firing a gun at them in Iowa County in March. Iowa County Sheriff’s Deputies originally responded on March 6 to a 1996 Oldsmobile on fire near the 226 mile marker of Interstate 80. Further investigation found that the same vehicle was involved in an armed robbery earlier in the day in Davenport. The next morning, Iowa County Deputies located a man, 31-year-old Jeremy Lee Krapp of Davenport, walking along Interstate 80 near the 225 exit. When attempting to make contact with him, Krapp pulled out a handgun and ran into a farm field. Krapp fired the weapon at a patrol vehicle, almost striking an Iowa Department of Natural Resources Conservation Officer and a Johnson County Deputy Sheriff. An Iowa County Emergency Management aerial drone was used to find Krapp. After armored vehicles from Johnson and Linn County Sheriff’s Offices were called in, Krapp surrendered without further incident. 

Sixth Judicial District Judge Kevin McKeever accepted a plea agreement where Krapp could spend a total of 30 years in prison. Krapp pled guilty to two counts of assault on persons in certain occupations, use or display of a weapon, dominion or control of a firearm or offensive weapon by felon, possession of controlled substance marijuana third offense, and intimidation with a dangerous weapon with intention to injure or provoke fear. The plea agreement dismissed two counts of attempted murder of a peace officer, a 25-year mandatory prison sentence with no options of work release, patrol, or early release.
