The number of people hospitalized due to COVID-19 in Iowa as of 1 p.m. Tuesday was 193 with 71 people in Intensive Care Units, and 49 people on ventilators. At Tuesday’s Washington County Board of Supervisors meeting Public Health Director Danielle Pettit-Majewski said the virus is still circulating and people should continue good hygiene practices.

She provided a local update on the novel coronavirus and shared what is being seen in southeast Iowa, “We are seeing approximately 25 people hospitalized per day, that admission rate is staying pretty average. Our positivity rate is trending down. So, these hospitalization rates, death rates, these are all lagging indicators so that’s good, that means hopefully we should continue to see those go down as we see our positivity rates continue to go down. We have been sitting at 208 cases in Washington County since I think Friday night at like 9 p.m. or maybe it was Saturday was our last case. So, we’ve had two full days without a new case coming in so that’s good.”

As of Tuesday at 1 p.m., of Washington County’s 208 confirmed cases, 172 people have recovered so far. Washington County has had nine deaths due to the virus. Louisa County has had 12 deaths, 355 cases and 287 recovered. Johnson County has had eight deaths and 650 cases with 473 recovered, Henry County has had two deaths and 74 cases with 65 recovered. Jefferson County has had 46 cases and 26 recovered, Iowa County has had 34 cases and 33 recovered, Keokuk County has had 16 cases and 14 recovered.

The Iowa Department of Public Health still encourages people to practice social distancing and wash hands frequently.
