It took a few innings to get going, but the Washington baseball bats took off in a season opening 14-3 win at Fairfield on Monday night.

The Trojans held a 3-0 advantage heading to the fourth inning when the Demons immediately tied the game in that frame and kept their foot on the gas. They tallied a pair of runs in the fifth and sixth before breaking the game wide open with a seven run seventh to put the contest out of reach. Washington peppered 13 hits led by Reece Mayer going 2-for-3 with three RBI and Trevor Quigley was 3-for-4. Ethan Patterson, Luke Turner, and Lucas Kroll each knocked in two runs for the Demons. It was a collective effort on the mound with four pitchers seeing action including Brady Knutson picking up the win with two scoreless innings giving up no hits. Patterson started by tossing three frames and striking out four while Turner and Mayer did not allow a run in one inning of work.

The game does not impact conference standings, but the Demons start up the season 1-0 and have their home opener tomorrow with Mount Pleasant in a doubleheader that can be heard on FM 106.1 KCII.
