The Highland boys and girls of summer earned area bragging rights on Tuesday by downing Lone Tree in Southeast Iowa Super Conference action.

The Huskie softball squad struck first and added on late to surge past the Lions with a 9-5 final. Seven Highland batters recorded hits led by Abbi Stransky going 4-for-4 with three RBI while Dani Laughlin and Kayla Cerny each added a pair of hits. Grace Batcheller recorded the win in the circle with four innings of work giving up three earned runs on six hits and Jessica Kraus pitched the final three frames of scoreless ball. The Huskies improve to 2-0 and the Lions drop to 1-1.

The baseball contest was tight throughout with Highland turning a 3-3 tie into a 7-4 win after a four run sixth inning. Luke Miller and Bill Laughlin each went 2-for-3 with one RBI and Cael Yeggy recorded the win in six innings on the bump giving up three runs on four hits and striking out nine. Both squads move to 1-1 on the young season.
